Last month the Biden administration boasted that they had proof that their newly tweaked border security programs were working because the number of apprehensions by Border Patrol agents was down from the previous month. The likely reason the number went down a little was because of the annual seasonal lull in illegal immigration. But the Biden administration, desperate to be seen as doing something, anything, about the Biden border crisis, claimed credit. Now will they accept the blame for the 25% increase in the numbers during the month of March?
Rest assured, DHS will point to a seasonal increase in March. The progressive media is happy to carry its water.
The number of migrants apprehended by U.S. immigration authorities after crossing the Mexican border without authorization increased by 25% in March as the Biden administration prepares for a major policy shift next month.
U.S. Border Patrol agents recorded over 162,000 apprehensions of migrants in between official ports of entry last month, a jump from the 130,000 apprehensions reported in February, federal statistics released Monday show.
The increase in migration follows a historical pattern of border crossings spiking in the spring. Despite the uptick, the number of migrant apprehensions last month was lower than the tallies recorded in March 2021 and March 2022.
The truth is that nothing has changed. The numbers are still at historically high levels. Joe Biden doesn’t prioritize border security. The sovereignty of the United States does not concern him. It is a short-sighted and dangerous attitude to take. Add to the mix the fact that Title 42 is ending next month and thousands of migrants are waiting for that day on the Mexican side of the border. DHS predicts that there will be 13,000 migrants crossing the southern border every day. That adds up to about 400,000 each month after Title 42 expires on May 11.
Think about that. If the Biden border crisis is causing the problems it is causing right now, with Title 42 still in use, and the number of apprehensions recorded in March was 162,000, and that number will grow to 400,000 after May, what kind of fresh hell will that open up for border communities? It’s unimaginable. Border communities and cities can’t cope as it is now, much less when the numbers triple or quadruple every month.
The Biden administration hopes to finalize a regulation before May 11 that disqualifies illegal aliens if they enter the U.S. without asking for protection in a country other than the one they fled on the way to the U.S. border. The rule will likely be challenged in court by immigration activists. They claim it is too Trumpy of an effort to change asylum laws. You can’t make it up. A rule that might work to slow the flood of illegal aliens into this country sounds like something Trump would do so it must be wrong. Never mind that it was Trump who had the border much more under control than Biden can ever hope of doing. The reason is that Trump’s policies and agreements worked. Joe Biden tossed them all out on his first day in office and here we are. That was Biden’s reasoning, too – he wanted to be the not-Trump president. He succeeded. It isn’t anything to brag about.
More than one million apprehensions of illegal aliens have been reported by Border Patrol in the fiscal year 2023. There are still six months to go in the fiscal year 2023. In the fiscal year 2022, Border Patrol recorded 2.2 million apprehensions, a record high. So, yes, 2023 will be a new record high, especially with the end of Title 42. There is no end in sight as long as Joe Biden is in office.
Thanks to Title 42, over 40% or about 420,000 apprehensions recorded in the current fiscal year have led to migrants being expelled to Mexico or back to their home country. In March, 85,000 expulsions were carried out. That is the highest number since June 2022. As I said, it’s not getting better. Joe Biden has been a disaster for American sovereignty.
