Cornyn to Mayorkas: ‘You Should Be Fired’, Cruz to Mayorkas: ‘If you had integrity, you would resign’

The two senators from Texas, both Republicans, did not hold back when DHS Secretary Mayorkas appeared before the Senate Judicial Committee Tuesday. Senator John Cornyn told Mayorkas he should be fired, while Senator Ted Cruz said if he had integrity he would resign. Sadly, neither is happening anytime soon.

Mayorkas is doing exactly what Joe Biden wants him to do. Biden’s border crisis is intentional. The humanitarian and national security crisis currently at the southern border was deliberately created on Biden’s first day in office. Joe Biden used executive orders and memos to stop programs and dissolve agreements with Mexico that successfully worked during the previous administration to secure the border. The border was more secure than it has been in years during the Trump administration but Biden and his progressive caucus want open borders. Therefore, we are where we are. Mayorkas isn’t going anywhere.

Senator Cornyn is the senior senator from Texas so let’s go with him first. Cornyn condemned Mayorkas for refusing to take accountability for the Biden administration’s failed policies. Those policies led to the open southern border which led to the trafficking of illegal drugs. Fentanyl is killing thousands of young people each month. Are those deaths just collateral damage in Biden’s war on national sovereignty? (My question, not Senator Cornyn’s.) These are excerpts from Cornyn’s questioning of Mayorkas. This provides a flavor of the tone and the refusal of Mayorkas to take responsibility for what happens on his watch.

CORNYN: “Last month, I went to Hays Consolidated Independent School District in Kyle, Texas, and I met Shannon and Darren McConville and Brandon Dunn and Janel Rodriguez. The McConvilles lost their 17-year-old son Kevin to fentanyl poisoning.”

“Brandon Dunn and Janelle Rodriguez’s 15-year-old son Noah… took a pill laced with fentanyl and died of fentanyl poisoning.”

“Mr. Secretary, would you like to take the opportunity here today to apologize to these parents who lost their children because of fentanyl poisoning, because of the policies of your Department and the Biden administration? Would you like to apologize to them?”

MAYORKAS: “Senator, my heart is with the family of every victim of a drug overdose death.”

CORNYN: “Is that an apology?”

MAYORKAS: “My heart is with the family and the loved ones and the friends.”

CORNYN: “So why don’t you do something about it?”

“Attorney General Garland said this is part of a comprehensive strategy by the cartels to flood these drugs into the United States by overwhelming Border Patrol. You’re clearly losing that battle, and you won’t even apologize to these parents, like so many other parents who have lost their teenage children to counterfeit drugs laced with fentanyl.”

“You won’t answer our questions, and you won’t acknowledge responsibility. My constituents are saying, ‘Who’s accountable? Who’s paying a price? Who got fired?’ Well, you haven’t been fired. You should be fired, but you haven’t been fired because you were carrying out the policies of the Biden administration, and we’ve seen nothing but death and destruction as a result.”

“You and the Biden administration’s policies are contributing to what is happening on the border, and according to Mrs. McConville, she credited the Biden broken border policies with contributing to the death of her son, and you won’t even have the common decency to apologize.”

No apologies. No accountability. Whatever happened to Biden’s boast that his administration will be the most transparent ever? That’s just like the rest of his lies. Grieving parents deserve the decency of at least acknowledgment that Biden’s policies have gone horribly wrong.

Next, we’ll go to Senator Cruz. He came in hot and didn’t let up. If you can, watch the whole video.

Mercy. That was brutal. No one does it like Ted Cruz.

Both Senator Cornyn and Senator Cruz have led delegations of lawmakers along the southern border for them to see firsthand what is going on. Both have worked to introduce and pass legislation that deals with immigration reform and the tragedy of human trafficking. Texas is the epicenter of the Biden border crisis.

Mayorkas was not willing to answer questions in an honest, straightforward way. He thought he was going to be able to filibuster and defend the administration’s horrible record. Cornyn and Cruz refused to let him do that. What was different this time than in previous hearings is that recently a field hearing was held by House Republicans (Democrats refused to participate) and Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz gave sworn testimony admitting that the southern border was indeed in crisis and that this crisis was making both Americans and illegal aliens less safe. As Cruz pointed out to Mayorkas, Border Patrol agents despise the secretary. Morale is low and recruitment is down. The job is overwhelming and a recipe for failure. The blame must be placed at the feet of Mayorkas and Biden. The buck stops with them.
