CBP hosts "unconscious bias" seminar as Biden's border crisis rages on

Biden’s border crisis began before he was even inaugurated and continues to grow. Candidate Joe Biden all but guaranteed a crisis on the southern border with his promises of ending deportations, blanket amnesty, and re-establishing catch and release policies. What could go wrong?

The word spread quickly and the flood of illegal migrants that resulted still continues, almost eleven months into the Biden administration. This is Biden’s America. DHS continues to pretend like everything is fine and under control. Just this week, Secretary of Homeland Security Mayorkas said that his top priority is ending the pandemic. Apparently, he thinks that is in his job description. Today U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hosting a seminar titled “Better Together: A Conversation on Unconscious Bias.” In the midst of being overwhelmed with the problems on the southern border and managing them, Border Patrol agents are being asked to attend a seminar on a politically correct hot topic – unconscious bias. Leftists want to label inherent sexism as a problem everyone in the workforce must address.

Fox News obtained a CBP memo outlining the leadership-hosted seminar. The “Task Force for Women” is hosting the seminar. The keynote speaker is Susan Fleming. Imagine how Border Patrol agents must feel about being asked to step away from their jobs to attend such a seminar. Let’s just say that Border Patrol agents aren’t impressed with the idea.

Acting CBP Commissioner Troy Miller and Patrol Agent in Charge Reggie Johnson are two of the officials slated to speak during the seminar about “the impact of stereotypes and unconscious biases in the workplace.”

While attendance appears to be optional, the seminar is already receiving negative reactions from people within the agency. An agent with CBP called the seminar “more woke bulls—” in a statement to Fox News.

On Tuesday, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus as the next commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The 61-year-old has a 41 year career in public safety. He was confirmed with a 50-47 vote, which shows the division between the parties on how to handle the southern border and immigration. Magnus is a progressive and some say controversial choice to lead the nation’s largest law enforcement agency.

Democrats in the Senate and the White House spoke favorably of his nomination.

It’s clear to me that Chief Magnus is going to handle this job with hard work and a sense of decency. He shares the view that enforcing our immigration laws and treating people humanely are not mutually exclusive,” Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden, D-Ore, said after Magnus’ confirmation hearing.

The Arizona police chief has “developed a reputation as a progressive police leader who focused on relationship-building between the police and community, implementing evidence-based best practices, promoting reform, and insisting on police accountability,” the White House said following Magnus’ nomination in April.

Magnus doesn’t label the crisis on the southern border as such, but he did tell Senate Republicans that the situation is “urgent” and “serious”. With the number of apprehensions at all-time highs, if this isn’t the time to call it a crisis, I don’t know when the time would be. Especially during a pandemic, the Biden border crisis is both a humanitarian and public health crisis. Magnus did toss Republicans a bone by saying he supports some expansion of a border wall and continuing Title 42.

However, Magnus expressed support for two controversial Trump-era policies. During the confirmation hearing, Magnus said he would back the expansion of the border wall in some areas of the southern border and supported the continuation of the Title 42 policy, which allows border agents and officers to immediately expel migrants to Mexico or their home countries under a public health consideration.

The Biden administration is not serious about border security, that is obvious. In the meantime, border states are left on their own to handle the crisis. Gender bias is the least of our problems on the border.
