PJ and Nicole Mongelli celebrated their wedding at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey Saturday. What happened during that celebration is a story the happy couple can tell their grandchildren one day. The President of the United States stopped by the wedding reception to say hello.
President Trump was in the neighborhood anyway, so to speak, as he owns the place. He was there for the weekend. There was no question that he would feel comfortable there because the wedding theme was Trump’s 2016 campaign slogan – Make America Great Again. The bride and groom are huge Trump supporters.
TMZ reported that Trump’s appearance was a surprise to the couple. The reception guests rushed to get up close and personal, cell phones recording the moment. You can hear the parents speaking to Trump.

You can see guests in pink MAGA hats and it’s reported that there were Trump 2020 flags in the reception hall. Trump kissed the bride and waved to everyone. It seems the man enjoys a wedding reception. He’s had three of his own, you know. The Staten Island couple got engaged at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in 2017.
The newlyweds appeared on Fox and Friends Monday morning. The bride wanted everyone to know that despite the reports of President Trump crashing the wedding reception, the truth is she sent him several invitations. She also sent him a booklet that details the encounters she has had with him at Trump rallies and events. Though Trump didn’t formally RSVP, it doesn’t sound so unusual that he actually stopped by for a few minutes, does it? I’m not sure what “encounters” means in this case. Maybe it means she posed for pictures with Trump at previous events or got an autograph. Your guess is as good as mine. Clearly, she and her husband are superfans of Trump.
The Washington Examiner published the groom’s sister’s video from her Twitter account.
So honored to have President Trump @realDonaldTrump at my brothers wedding last night at @TrumpBedminster . Thank you for making their dream come true! #45 #KAG #2020 #USA @realDonaldTrump pic.twitter.com/hwlxaIQpYH

As the Washington Examiner article points out, this isn’t the first time President Trump has appeared at a wedding reception on one of his properties.
Trump has a history of dropping in on weddings at his various resorts and golf clubs. The president also crashed the wedding of Kristen Piatkowski and Tucker Gladhill in June 2017. The bride and groom were similarly excited, if not as overtly political, about Trump’s appearance.
As Town and Country magazine reported at the time, President Trump wasn’t an invited guest but the couple were thrilled to have him pop in. It turns out, a possibility of a surprise appearance by Trump at wedding receptions was promoted in the club’s brochure.
For the three or four minutes that the president was in the room and took pictures with the couple, they say, “it felt like time stood still.” He’d been having dinner upstairs at the golf club. Never one to miss an opportunity to soak up some adoration—and reinforce his role as the de facto face of the Trump club network—the president met the couple in the club’s downstairs library.
Trump wasn’t on the Greenhills’ guest list, but they might have had an inkling he’d stop by. A now-discontinued wedding brochure for the club suggested that “If he is on-site for your big day, he will likely stop in & congratulate the happy couple. He may take some photos with you but we ask you and your guests to be respectful of his time & privacy.”
I was thinking about what I would have done if the president that was in office when I got married stopped by our wedding reception. It was President Reagan, back in the day. Being a political junkie and a Republican, I’d have been speechless. Though our wedding reception was much smaller and more modest than one at a Trump property, I can imagine the guests being excited to see such an important person. Well, most of them – there were some anti-Reagan lefties among the crowd of family and friends. But, that was more than three decades ago (our wedding anniversary is at the end of this month) and cell phones weren’t invented yet to record such surprises. Not every moment was politicized in our lives. As much of a superfan as I was then and still am today of President Reagan, I think it’s better that way.
