Just as it looked as though Beto O’Rourke’s star was fading fast in the 2020 Democrat primary of presidential hopefuls, he secured the endorsement of country music legend Willie Nelson. Stand back and watch as Beto’s poll numbers soar now.

Just kidding. No one cares, except Beto’s campaign. Any favorable publicity is better than none, especially when a candidate is battling 23 others for his party’s nomination. Willie Nelson appeared on The View and told the ladies that “Anything he wants to do, I’m with Beto.”

Joy Behar sounds snippy to Willie, doesn’t she? She isn’t showing a lot of patience for his memory lapses though she does try to keep a bit of a smile on her face as she questions him. Clearly, she wishes Beto would step out of the presidential race and run against Senator Cornyn in Texas. Never Trump Republican consultant Ana Navarro jumped in to assist Joy in her suggestion of Beto O’Rourke as a candidate for U.S. Senate.

Willie has been a supporter of Beto O’Rourke in the past. He endorsed Beto in 2018 when O’Rourke challenged Ted Cruz for his Senate seat. Nelson helped raise money for Beto and even campaigned for him. He brought Beto up on stage to perform with him in concert, too. Punk rocker Beto and country western singer Willie Nelson was quite the odd couple.

Willie Nelson is 86 years old now. He has always been active in Democrat politics so endorsing Beto against Ted Cruz was a no-brainer for him. There is no doubt that Nelson’s endorsement in 2018 helped Beto but now in the presidential race, it probably doesn’t matter one way or the other. During his time on The View when the close race against Cruz was mentioned, Nelson said, “I hope I didn’t hurt him.” Joy Behar took a condescending tone as she asked him about a political song he introduced during Beto’s senate race titled “Vote ‘Em Out”. He wasn’t clear about which song Behar was asking him about as she introduced a video clip of Nelson performing the song during a rally for Beto in 2018.

It doesn’t matter if Beto stays in the presidential race or if he drops out and runs to replace Senator Cornyn in the Senate as far as Willie is concerned. He supports whatever decision Beto makes. Joy Behar, though, clearly thinks Beto should focus on running for the Senate. The same has been said of Steve Bullock by Democrats in Montana unhappy that potentially strong challengers aren’t running for Senate seats instead of jumping into the overcrowded presidential field.

“There are a lot of them out there that are racing for the same thing,” Nelson said of the 2020 Democratic primary, which has swelled to two dozen contenders in recent weeks.

“It’s hard to tell who’s where right now, it’s going to take a while,” he continued, adding: “Anything he wants to do, I’m with Beto.”

Willie Nelson is still touring and performing. He is promoting a new album and he’s moving to Las Vegas for a limited engagement at the Venetian Theatre in October. The old guy is still in the mix. I’ll say that for him.
