Open border group: Don't hire former Trump administration people or else

“We will be watching.” That’s the message from open border leftists who have organized to lean on Fortune 500 company CEOs and University presidents against hiring Trump administration officials leaving their jobs. They are demanding that no administration official involved in the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to secure the border be hired when looking for future opportunities.

Immigration and civil rights groups are urging companies not to hire senior Trump administration officials who were involved in planning, carrying out or defending the separation of migrant children from their parents.

“They should not be allowed to seek refuge in your boardrooms or corner offices,” according to the open letter signed by 41 groups, including Southern Poverty Law Center. “Allowing them to step off of the revolving door and into your welcoming arms should be a non-starter.”

The group is Restore Public Trust, an organization “promoting accountability and transparency in government.” In this case, the mission is to prevent any former Trump administration official employment once their time in government service is over. While claiming to be non-partisan, the group organized specifically to call-out the Trump administration’s alleged corruption, as noted in its original press release and none of its board members listed are conservative. This is my shocked face.

A letter was released by them Saturday and that was before Secretary Nielson’s resignation so I can only imagine how ramped up the demands will be to make sure she doesn’t have a soft landing elsewhere. She will be punished for doing her job as best as she could given the fact that Congress holds the law-making abilities. Her job was to enforce them and she did. Do you want stricter or more lax laws for enforcement? That’s on Congress, not a cabinet member. Their letter lists members of the administration and their titles while pointing an accusatory finger at each for their role in immigration policy. Some short explanations of their duties are included.

The letter singles out 30 current and former officials including John Kelly, the former White House chief of staff, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and Trump spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Also on the list are lesser known officials such as former Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand, Deputy Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Robert Perez, and Ronald Vitiello, acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Many of you spoke out against this barbaric policy. However strong the opposition, your words are meaningless unless they are backed up with resolute action.

We call on you to make it clear that you will not hire for employment, contract for consulting, or a seat on your boards, anyone involved in the development or implementation of the Trump administration’s family separation immigration policy.

Furthermore, you should make it clear to the lobbying shops and consulting firms you hire and the think tanks, political committees, and candidates you fund — that you will not work with or support them if they hire these individuals.

There are some lines that simply cannot be crossed.

I can almost hear the “Let the doxxing begin!” cries coming from #TheResistance. April 6 was chosen as the date for the letter’s release as it was the anniversary of the date that former Attorney General Jeff Sessions declared a zero-tolerance immigration policy. The MAGA red hat worn by Trump supporters is used in a newspaper ad with the wording “Put Kids in Cages” .

The groups say they’ve purchased an ad in Sunday’s New York Times that will say: “Attention Corporate America: Don’t let hate into your boardroom.” It will feature a photograph of a red baseball cap, modeled after Trump’s signature “Make America Great Again” headgear, on a boardroom table that reads instead, “Put Kids In Cages.”

An early example of this technique from the left was Sarah Isgur’s hiring by CNN. You may remember she worked as Sessions’ Department of Justice spokeswoman. She left and was hired by CNN as a political editor. The open borders crowd on the left, along with many of their cohorts in the media, had a hissy fit that a liberal mouthpiece would hire a conservative in such a position. She was moved to a position as a contributor. That’s what the left does in Trump’s America. They de-platform conservatives and shut down any possibility of differing voices.

Frisch said companies should expect a public outcry if they hire officials who played a role in family separations. He said that happened after CNN announced earlier this year that it had hired former Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur as a political editor. After a public backlash, her role was instead deemed a political commentator. Isgur is among those targeted in the letter.

Companies “need to think twice about what that will mean for their brand to be associating with somebody who is responsible for one of the most horrific policies this administration put forward and that speaks volumes,” Frisch said. “Do they want to be famous for this?”

And the group intends to target any groups hiring former administration officials as speakers. As I said, no differing opinions are allowed to be heard if they can be shut down.

Kelly and Sessions, who both left the administration in late 2018, haven’t taken full-time jobs but have been listed by the Worldwide Speakers Group, an agency that arranges paid speaking appearances for a range of well-known people. The immigration and civil rights groups plan to track who hires the two men to speak.

Imagine if conservatives had taken this street thug type of action during the Obama administration. How many of them left their time with Obama to go on to be lobbyists, sit on boards or act as network media gigs as contributors? Lots of them did. It will be interesting to see if the Fortune 500 corporations and university will be cowed by such aggressive resistance. There is a bit of history, you know, as we’ve seen companies change their policies in reaction to legislative moves from the Trump administration and to current events. For example, companies have ended discounts for NRA members, sporting goods stores have stopped selling guns and conservative speakers on college campuses have been dis-invited. This is who they are. The left demands groupthink and lock-step behavior.

Nice company (or university) you have here. It’d be a shame if anything happened to it. Good luck to Secretary Nielson in her future endeavors. It’s rough out there.
