A designer winter coat sold in the brand’s 2013 winter collection is making a comeback and Nancy Pelosi of all people is the reason. As odd as it sounds, a 78-year-old woman not particularly known for her wardrobe caused quite a stir with #TheResistance loyalists on Twitter as she emerged from the White House meeting in the Oval Office with President Trump and Sen. Chuck Schumer this week. The coat designer was so excited about the unexpected publicity that he announced the garment will be brought back and will be available in more colors, too.

The coat’s special feature apparently is the stand-up collar. When Pelosi added the sunglasses, she was pronounced a badass. The thing is, I didn’t even notice as she approached the microphone in the driveway with Schumer. To read the proclamations from liberals on Twitter, though, she was sending a message with the choice of outerwear, much like the ridiculous women who don the long red capes and white bonnets straight out of The Handmaid’s Tale during protests. Wait until those dying to buy one for themselves see the price tag. But will even the most ardent of the resistance sisters want to pay $2,000 to $4,000 to stick it to President Trump and the funding for his border wall? It’s fine for millionaires in San Francisco but how does that price tag play in the suburbs with average middle America women?
In fact, such a ruckus was caused over the popularity of Pelosi’s coat that the designer has decided to reinstate it. The coat, called the “GLAMIS,” was last sold in 2013 by Max Mara, but the Italian design house late yesterday said it will re-release it in 2019 in a variety of colors. Max Mara coats typically retail $1,000-2,000, but can go as high as $4,000 and up.
Pelosi also wore the coat to Obama’s second inauguration ceremony in 2013, but it was wearing it in and out of her fiery Oval Office meeting with Trump on Tuesday that this time made it go viral, launching dozens of memes, and even a New York Times think piece by Vanessa Friedman.
Lefty actress Holland Taylor tweeted a reference to the coat replacing the capes using Melania Trump’s White House Christmas decorations. Of course.

Melania Trump also wears Max Mara coats but somehow hers have not made the fashion czars swoon. It’s more of the double standard shown to Melania. Her appearance is flawless yet she is ignored by all the fashion magazines and magazine covers because of her husband. Trump Derangement Syndrome spills out to those around him. Imagine the non-stop adoration she would receive if she were married to a Democrat president.
Max Mara coats are also a popular choice for first lady Melania Trump, who has worn at least three of them to public events over the past year, including a baby blue wrap coat that retailed for $3,995.
Most recently, Trump wore a white Max Mara “Levico” belted coat to the lighting of the National Christmas Tree in Washington.
Pelosi’s performance with President Trump and Schumer was notable because she was trying just a little too hard to shore up support from the Democrats still reluctant to support her bid for Speaker of the House. She still doesn’t quite have enough votes to succeed so she was trying to convey that she’ll stand up to Trump. She deliberately poked at him and of course, he responded. She then made the mistake of saying that she didn’t think their conversation should be in front of the press. So much for all that transparency that she promised to bring to Congress when she’s in charge.
She was definitely feeling herself as she spoke to the press afterward while Schumer looked rather defeated and weak. Trump took the air out of Schumer’s sails when he accepted responsibility for a government shutdown, should one actually happen. He’s a New Yorker. Shouldn’t Schumer know by now that Trump likes to put his name on everything?
Pelosi stayed in the news by challenging Trump’s boasts that he has the votes in the House to pass his full $5B request for border security and his plans for the wall and claimed it was a “manhood” thing with Trump. Then she promised to go after Trump’s tax returns to appease the base a little further. She knows it will be a futile attempt but hey, she’s got a Speaker’s title on the line.
Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday that a House committee will “take the first steps” toward obtaining President Trump’s tax returns once Democrats take control of the House.
Pelosi, who is expected to become the Democrats’ next speaker of the House, said the process could be “challenging” as Trump has vowed to resist their requests.
“There is popular demand for the Congress to request the president’s tax returns,” Pelosi told reporters.
“I’m sure the White House will resist, so the question is, ‘Where do we go from there?’”
Nowhere, Nancy. Nowhere. Not even that designer coat will help get those tax returns.
