Hasan Piker is really having quite a week and Democrats are clearly getting nervous about it. The specific problem seems to be with Abdul El-Sayed’s Senate campaign in Michigan which is looking a bit wobbly after he a) buddied up with Hasan to campaign and now b) is struggling to create some distance from him after his recent comments about Jews. El-Sayed put out a statement Monday.

El-Sayed was trying to distance himself from Piker claiming Israel was "Jewish ISIS" and that supporting Israel would lead to attacks on American Jews:
Piker argued the "connection between Israel and Zionism that is expressed over and over again through a lot of these Jewish institutions is teaching people the idea that Jews are monolithic" — which he called a "very dangerous mode of propaganda."
"And you want to know why? Because people don't f*** with Israel any longer," Piker said. "And if Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they are singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone's going to come around and take action, not against the state of Israel, mind you, but against American Jews."
Several minutes later, Piker added: "You're running around, basically tying your entire identity to a country that inevitably will be seen as basically Jewish ISIS, and you're saying, as Jews, this is all we care about. You're making antisemitism worse."
While El-Sayed was crawling away from his buddy Piker, other Democrats also denounced Hasan, calling him "a hack who thrives on hate, shock and awe because he lacks substance."
Rep. Hillary Scholten — who said on X that Piker is “hurting the chances of a Democratic majority in November” — told people she won’t put her name on campaign literature with El-Sayed, doesn’t want to be part of the unified campaign and won’t contribute to its cost, two senior Michigan Democrats briefed on the conversation told Playbook. She joins state Sen. Jeremy Moss, who’s running for Michigan’s 11th District and was at the center of Piker’s recent comments, in declining to endorse El-Sayed.
“I have long said I will not campaign with someone who continues to associate with Hasan Piker,” Scholten told Playbook. “Today, Abdul El-Sayed had a prime opportunity to cut ties with Piker and directly disavow his words, but he did not. There is a lot of work left to do to unite the party.”
Sen. Cory Booker also came out yesterday to denounce Piker. Kudos to him for getting this one right:

Hasan Piker’s dangerous and hateful language targeting Jewish Americans has no place in our civic discourse. Suggesting that Jewish Americans bear responsibility for hatred or violence directed against them is wrong, dangerous, and antisemitic.
We can, and should, argue fiercely over policy. We should have meaningful dialogue and debate about the policies and actions of the Israeli government and American foreign policy. That is the lifeblood of democracy. But that’s not what this is.
No American should be told that their political beliefs make them responsible for hatred or violence directed against them. There is a bright line between vigorous debate and rhetoric that stokes hatred toward our neighbors. Mr. Piker has crossed that line, repeatedly and unmistakably.

In any case, seeing their chances to retake the senate evaporate in a cloud of antisemitism and animosity is clearly freaking out a lot of Democrats. I'm willing to bet a memo has gone out and now the message pouring forth is that no one needs to care or talk about Hasan Piker. He's irrelevant and let's just move on. Here's El-Sayed saying so.

So, as per usual, the Democrats are a mess and their solution is to get everyone to just shut up so they can get El-Sayed over the finish line before people realize what a nut he is. Hasan Piker is just a speed bump along the way.
