I wrote about this earlier before things really broke loose a couple hours ago.
Time to drop the really big bomb:@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025
Have a nice day, DJT!
And that has led to some more angry words exchanged, with Trump threatening to cancel Elon's contracts like he's Harvard and Musk volunteering to stand down his own launch system.

And it just keeps going.
The Trump tariffs will cause a recession in the second half of this year https://t.co/rbBC11iynE

This is a clash of the titans.
It's not just a public spat between two rich/powerful people. Each controls their own social media platform and is actively using it to litigate the breakup.
— Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) June 5, 2025
I really don't think any of this was planned. You can feel Musk's anger is genuine and has been building for two days. But that said...
The curious thing here is: this public divorce between Trump & Elon benefits both of them in many ways.
— Justin Hart (@justin_hart) June 5, 2025
For one thing, Musk's friendship with Trump has killed Tesla. Sales are down as liberals refuse to buy a car from someone they see as a Trump ally. After today, that could look different.
Was waiting for someone to break out this meme.

Trump is trying, not completely successfully (see above), to keep his eyes on the prize. He's trying to bring the focus back to the bill.

Meanwhile, Musk is not holding back at all.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025
It's weird to think about but this really could be something kids talk about in public schools one day. This is potentially a big split that probably cannot be repaired and it could have a big impact on both of them.
All of this is overshadowing the absolutely savage takedown of Karine Jean-Pierre today by fellow Democrats.
The thing about Democrats openly questioning Karine Jean-Pierre's competence now -- it's an admission they openly use accusations of racism and homophobia to silence people when it's convenient.
— Mark Hemingway (@Heminator) June 5, 2025
Doesn't matter they actually agreed she was bad at her job.
Lucky timing for KJP. But if Trump is holding back a bit, his old ally Steve Bannon (and my former boss) is not. He's talking about deporting Musk.
Steve Bannon is calling on President Trump to cancel Elon Musks’s government contracts and launch several investigations into him.

He’s also calling for Musk to be deported. pic.twitter.com/fFFt1ivrmq
Still some folks thinking this can't be real.
Yeah, I had this thought. https://t.co/UR5Us4m732
— Robert A. George (@RobGeorge) June 5, 2025
I think we crossed out any chance this was staged when Elon started connecting Trump to Epstein. But despite being very real it also has a lot of entertainment value.

How soon before someone buzzkills the whole thing?
enjoy this moment everyone. sooner or later hillary's gonna post about it and it'll stop being funny
— Ken Klippenstein (@kenklippenstein) June 5, 2025
Democrats are, for the moment, still enjoying themselves.
KILL THE BILL AND RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES!
— Democrats (@TheDemocrats) June 5, 2025
Some think Musk should have seen this coming.
The Tech Right got suckered by the most obvious con-man in political history, defended him while he raised tariffs, slashed science, and scared away foreign talent, and now the admin is gonna wreck SpaceX for spite while Bannon calls for Musk's deportation. Well done.
— Derek Thompson (@DKThomp) June 5, 2025
MK Ham is joking but also she's right.
On the bright side, vandalizing Teslas and dealerships will be illegal again bc it won't be for the right reasons anymore.
— Mary Katharine Ham (@mkhammer) June 5, 2025
Actually, Tesla vandalism has slowed down since Musk stepped back from DOGE. That's no a coincidence. That was the goal of the vandalism after all.
I'll keep updating this a bit longer.
After the abject misery of the Obama era (including the Biden “autopen presidency”), the election of President Trump and the liberation of Twitter by Elon Musk were a godsend. Two great Americans gave us our country back.
— James Woods (@RealJamesWoods) June 5, 2025
It is heartbreaking to witness this rift between them.
I wonder what they're talking about in the Oval Office?
