Is the Musk vs Zuck cage match really going to happen?

They could call it the Billionaire Brawl or maybe something to bring down expectations like Nerd Slap 1.0.

In case you haven’t been online lately, it seems that Twitter owner Elon Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg are seriously thinking about holding a cage match fight in Las Vegas. The idea popped up Tuesday as Musk was making some comments about Zuckerberg’s new Twitter competitor Threads.

And here’s where things took a turn to the absurd.

Zuckerberg then responded on his Instagram story saying “Send Me Location.” And Musk responded to that.

As for the location, he suggested “Vegas Octagon.”

The “walrus” is a joke. It’s a fake move he said he once demonstrated to a female friend. Here’s a clip from the podcast/interview where he talked about it.

The point is that Musk is significantly bigger and heavier than Zuckerberg. He’s around 6’1″ or 6’2′” and probably weighs between 220 and 240 pounds. Meanwhile Zuckerberg is about 5’8″ and probably weighs 150-160.

But I wouldn’t count Zuckerberg out immediately. For one thing he’s younger. Musk is 51 and Zuckerberg is only 39. Also, Zuckerberg has been training in jiu jitsu and has even won some competitions. He posted this about six weeks ago.

For Memorial Day this year he claimed to have completed the Murph challenge in under 40 minutes. If so, that means he’s in extremely good shape. The Murph challenge consists of a 1 mile run, 100 pullups, 200 push ups, 300 squats, and another mile run. This is all done while wearing 20 pounds of body armor. Here’s Zuckerberg’s photo.

Just last week he posted this video of himself training with a Brazilian world champion.

So, if Elon is counting on the walrus move to win this for him he might be disappointed. If he really trained and got in shape for a few months then his size and weight would be a big advantage. But if he’s out of breath after the first minute of chasing Zuckerberg around the octagon, he’s not going to win the fight.

I’m not sure this is going to happen. I’m not sure their companies would even allow it if there’s any chance either one of them could get hurt. Shareholders might take a dim view of a CEO with head injuries.

Finally, Maye Musk, Elon’s mom and frequent travel companion, has said she’s cancelling the fight.

I don’t think this is going to happen but I do think both of these guys were somewhat serious about it yesterday. So until they call it off let’s call this a maybe.
