On the morning we all learned that former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had been assassinated during a public speech, it’s getting harder to avoid the conclusion that the left would very much like to see something similar happen to Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Wednesday night Kavanaugh went out to dinner at Morton’s steakhouse. One of the people who has been attending Ruth Sent Us’ weekly protests at Kavanaugh’s house apparently works at the Morton’s in Washington, DC and sent the group a tip.

Within minutes a group called ShutDownDC was calling for people to protest outside the restaurant.

According to Politico, some protesters did show up but didn’t really make much of an impact except maybe to disrupt other people trying to have dinner.
…the court had no official comment on Kavanaugh’s behalf and a person familiar with the situation said he did not hear or see the protesters and ate a full meal but left before dessert, Morton’s was outraged about the incident. A rep for the chain steakhouse sent Lippman this statement:
“Honorable Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh and all of our other patrons at the restaurant were unduly harassed by unruly protestors while eating dinner at our Morton’s restaurant. Politics, regardless of your side or views, should not trample the freedom at play of the right to congregate and eat dinner. There is a time and place for everything. Disturbing the dinner of all of our customers was an act of selfishness and void of decency.”
As for Kavanaugh, he reportedly left through the back door to avoid the protesters.

Other activists are still doing their best to punish Morton’s by creating fake reservations for parties that will never turn up.

Several people have pointed out that this won’t punish Kavanaugh, who won’t be there tonight, but it will punish the waiters and staff if the show up to work and there are no customers because of this prank. But when the left is having a tantrum, there’s no stopping them. You can’t have a revolution without breaking a few eggs and all of that.
Most of this is just dumb and harmless but the left seems to be doing its best to work itself toward more personal confrontation with Kavanaugh and the other Justices. These protests are ostensibly peaceful but we’ve already had one would-be assassin show up at Kavanaugh’s house. That didn’t give the activists any second thoughts and the media barely covered the story. Now they are offering rewards for the public location of any conservative justice so they can broadcast it. That will no doubt make it easier for any lunatic who wants to do them harm.
What’s the end goal here? Given what we just saw happen in Japan the real possibility of a political assassination attempt ought to concern us. And yes, there are crazy people on all sides of the political spectrum. I’m well aware of that. But the right is often told not to work the crazies on their side into a frenzy, i.e. not to create a climate of hate. The rules seem to be different when the left is stirring up the crazies on their side.
Update: As always the Biden White House supports this. She keeps saying “peacefully, peacefully” but by the time it’s not peaceful it’ll be too late.
