It's happening! Romney files paperwork to run for Senate

Mitt Romney officially entered the race for Senate in Utah last month. He made the announcement in a 2-minute long video published on his Twitter account. Today, Romney took the next step by officially filing to run. Again, he posted the news on Twitter.

There was a lot of speculation before his announcement last month that Senator Romney, though having no official seniority, would immediately become the leader of the GOP resistance to President Trump. That was based on Romney’s tough words about Trump going back to March 2016 when he said this:

But you say, wait, wait, wait, isn’t he a huge business success? Doesn’t he know what he’s talking about? No, he isn’t and no he doesn’t.

Look, his bankruptcies have crushed small businesses and the men and women who work for them. He inherited his business, he didn’t create it. And whatever happened to Trump Airlines? How about Trump University? And then there’s Trump Magazine and Trump Vodka and Trump Steaks and Trump Mortgage. A business genius he is not…

Now, Donald Trump tells us that he is very, very smart.

I’m afraid that when it comes to foreign policy he is very, very not smart…

Here’s what I know. Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University.

But nearly two years later it seems President Trump has put that behind him. Shortly after Romney announced he was running, the president endorsed him on Twitter:

And Romney responded in kind, thanking Trump for his support.

As Ed wrote at the time, the hatchet had apparently been buried and, so far, it seems to have remained buried. Here’s Romney’s announcement video which focuses on Utah values. There is one dig in this about Washington, DC’s message of exclusion to legal immigrants but, again, it seems Trump has decided to let it pass.
