Bret Weinstein is preparing to sue Evergreen State College for $3.8 million

Campus Reform reports that Professor Bret Weinstein and his wife, also a professor, are preparing a $3.8 million dollar lawsuit against Evergreen State College for creating a racially hostile work environment:

In an email to Campus Reform, Weinstein’s attorney underscored that the $3.8 million is a total claimed on behalf of both professors collectively “for the hostile work environment that has been fostered at the college over the past year or so.”

He also noted that there is “no current litigation” at this point, since a tort claim must be filed “at least 60 days prior to initiating legal action” in the state of Washington…

The factual narrative submitted alongside the tort claim argues that Evergreen State “has permitted, cultivated, and perpetuated a racially hostile and retaliatory work environment,” asserting that “Through a series of decisions made at the highest levels, including to officially support a day of racial segregation, the College has refused to protect its employees from repeated provocative and corrosive verbal and written hostility based on race, as well as threats of physical violence.”

Campus Reform has published a portion of the “factual narrative” associated with the tort. It covers ground which people familiar with this situation will have heard about. For instance, the Day of Absence where white people were encouraged to leave campus as a sign of solidarity with minorities. Here’s a sample of the narrative:

More than ninety faculty members and staff submitted their letter to the Board of Trustees demanding an investigation into Professor Weinstein.

Around this time, Professor Weinstein discovered that someone had set up a fake Facebook account in his name that showed photographs of a handgun, and made false and provocative statements about him being “tired” of TESC students.

If you haven’t followed this story before now, I’d recommend starting with the Vice News video below. If you’ve seen that already (Allahpundit wrote about it here), the next step would be Weinstein’s interview with Joe Rogan. The Rogan interview is two and a half hours long but I transcribed some of the highlights here. Also worth a look:

  • The initial confrontation outside Weinstein’s classroom that went viral.
  • Professor Weinstein’s sin? He appeared on Fox News.
  • Evergreen student McKenzie Kyger and Professor Bret Weinstein give statements to the Board of Trustees (along with a statement from a professor who supported the protests)
  • Interview with Evergreen student McKenzie Kyger in which she describes being told she couldn’t speak at a campus meeting because she was white.
  • Another Evergreen student describes being called a “Nazi” because she defended Professor Weinstein.
