Shooting at San Bernardino elementary school (Updated: One student has died)

There was a shooting at North Park Elementary school in San Bernardino this morning. According to police, this appears to have been a murder-suicide in which both the shooter and a teacher at the school died. However, two students were also injured and have been transported to the hospital. KABC reports:

Four people, including two students and one teacher, were injured at the campus, according to Maria Garcia of the San Bernardino PD. The gunman was reported to be “down,” and the threat has been contained, Garcia added.

According to San Bernardino police chief Jarrod Burguan, the threat is over.

Some video from the scene:

There’s not much more information at the moment but this post will be updated as additional details become available.

Update: CNN has a bit more information that explains why the student victims were shot:

Two students were also injured, and are listed in critical condition at area hospitals, Madden said.

The names and ages of the students are not being released, pending notification of family.

Police do not believe the two children were targeted; they happened to be near the female adult in what may have been a multigrade classroom.

Update: Horrible news via CNN:

Jonathan Martinez, 8, died at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda after being airlifted from the school, the police chief said. The other student, a 9-year-old boy, was listed in stable condition.
