Petition seeks to silence animatronic President Trump at Disney's Hall of Presidents

Resistance to President Trump has gone from tragedy to farce in record time. Having failed to prevent Trump from becoming president and having so far failed to stop his cabinet nominees or his executive order, some members of The Resistance are now aiming a bit lower. A man in Brooklyn has started a Change.org petition asking the Walt Disney Company to stop animatronic Donald Trump from speaking in Disney World’s Hall of Presidents.

If you’re not familiar with it, Disney’s Hall of Presidents is a theater in which animatronic versions of American presidents make speeches designed to present a brief history of the United States and their role in it. Each new president is added shortly after he enters office. So, for instance, President Obama was added in 2009 and, at the time, he recorded a brief speech which his anamatronic figure delivers on stage. The White House even put out a behind-the-scenes video about the recording of his Hall of President’s speech which you can see below.

The Hall of Presidents was closed in mid-January and is scheduled to reopen at the end of June with the newly added figure of President Trump. But Matthew Rogers of Brooklyn, NY has started a petition demanding that Disney not allow animatronic Trump to speak. He writes:

This is a petition to stop the inevitable Donald Trump animatronic figure from speaking, let alone giving a speech similar to the one given by Barack Obama and past incumbent Presidents, during the “Hall of Presidents” attraction at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Donald Trump ran a Presidential campaign on hateful speech, misogyny, racism and xenophobia. In doing so, he has tainted the legacy of the American Presidency forever…

The Magic Kingdom at Disney World is a place specifically designed for the enjoyment of children and families. Therefore, it is not an appropriate place for a Donald Trump speech. We ask that Walt Disney World take a stand against divisive and hurtful rhetoric and have the backs of millions of Americans and people worldwide whose day would be ruined by the depiction of a speech by Donald Trump.

The petition which started 6 days ago now has 8,376 signatures, just over 1,600 shy of the 10,000 goal.

I love everything about this story. It once again shows what sore losers Democrats have become. It shows how petty they are in their efforts at casting Trump as an illegitimate president. And it shows that silencing their opponents remains their go-to tactic, even when that opponent is a robot in a theme park.

Hopefully Disney won’t give in to attempts to turn the park into a Democratic safe space where the reality of the 2016 election does not intrude. Trump is the President of the United States which means, contrary to the people signing this petition, that the Hall of Presidents is the appropriate place for him to appear and to speak. Disney should honor President Trump exactly as they would have honored Hillary Clinton if she had won the election.

Here’s video of Obama recording his speech for the Hall of Presidents in 2009 followed by a clip created by Disney Theme Parks about adding President Obama to the show.
