The Inspector General for the Department of Justice has announced that he will review the FBI’s actions prior to the 2016 election. Huffington Post has published a portion of the press release put out by the IG’s office specifying the questions he will be investigating:

• Allegations that Department or FBI policies or procedures were not followed in connection with, or in actions leading up to or related to, the FBI Director’s public announcement on July 5, 2016, and the Director’s letters to Congress on October 28 and November 6, 2016, and that certain underlying investigative decisions were based on improper considerations;
• Allegations that the FBI Deputy Director should have been recused from participating in certain investigative matters;
• Allegations that the Department’s Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs improperly disclosed non-public information to the Clinton campaign and/or should have been recused from participating in certain matters;
• Allegations that Department and FBI employees improperly disclosed non-public information; and
• Allegations that decisions regarding the timing of the FBI’s release of certain Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) documents on October 30 and November 1, 2016, and the use of a Twitter account to publicize same, were influenced by improper considerations.

The press release makes clear what prompted this decision. It comes, “in response to requests from numerous Chairmen and Ranking Members of Congressional Oversight committees, various organizations, and members of the public.”

Note that not all of the items in this bullet-point list are targeting FBI Director Comey or actions that potentially benefited Donald Trump. The second point relates to FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe whose wife received half a million dollars from a SuperPAC connected to Gov. Terry McAuliffe (a long-time Clinton associate) for a run for state senate. The group Cause of Action called for McCabe to recuse himself from the case prior to the election.

The third bullet point refers to Peter Kadzik, the Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs who was John Podesta’s college classmate. According to a leaked email, Kadzik once gave Podesta a head up from his private email account about some FOIA developments regarding Clinton’s email.

So while Comey’s behavior is certainly what will be the focus for many in the progressive media, the IG is looking at more than that. ABC News has tweeted out a copy of the full release:
