Maryland high school students skipped class Wednesday morning to hold a “mostly peaceful” anti-Trump rally. These things are rarely peaceful just “mostly peaceful.” In this case, a few students decided to make sure love would trump hate by beating up a student wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. From the Washington Post:
A Maryland high school student wearing a red “Make America Great Again” cap was injured and taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after he scuffled with a group of anti-Trump protesters who punched and kicked him, according to police…
About 10:30 a.m., as the students streamed up Maryland Avenue, a confrontation broke out between the student wearing the cap that had Trump’s campaign slogan on it and another student, said Rockville Police Maj. Michael England.
Soon, four other students jumped in, and the student wearing the Trump hat was punched and kicked, England said. The student ended up on the ground in the grass near the county office building.
A witness to the attack told WTOP, “They jumped him and beat him up pretty bad.” One 17-year-old student involved in the fight will be charged with assault but apparently has not been arrested. Fortunately, the victim was not seriously injured but he did sustain some scrapes and bruises and was taken to the hospital. ABC7 reporter Suzanne Kennedy posted video of the victim who seemed disoriented after the beating:

It’s incredible that this video has barely been retweeted today. It’s not hard to imagine what would have happened if a black or Hispanic student were beaten by a group of Trump supporters this morning. That would have been the biggest story of the day. As it is, the media, doesn’t seem to see any broader lessons here. As Sarah Kliff once said about America’s most prolific serial killer/abortionist, it’s a local news story.
With the purging of dissent behind them, the rest of the students carried their “Love trumps hate” signs to the Rockville courthouse where they chanted “Not my president” and other nonsense.

The school principal release a statement saying, “Unfortunately, the otherwise peaceful protest was marred by a physical altercation between two students who had opposing political viewpoints. This is unacceptable and the perpetrator will receive appropriate consequences.” It sure sounds as if there was several students who marred the protest, all on the anti-Trump side of the aisle. I guess this is what they mean by grading on a curve.
