For some on the left, Hillary has never told a lie about her email

There’s always a fringe of people willing to believe anything you tell them about their favorite candidate. That’s clearly the case with Hillary Clinton. Peter Daou, a former Clinton adviser, spent the day claiming Hillary had never told a lie about her emails:

That tweet was a reaction to Jake Tapper’s excellent video (created in collaboration with FactCheck.org) spelling out why Hillary’s recent statements about her truthfulness are misleading. Tapper is not exactly out on a limb here. Hillary has been sharply rebuked in the past week by several fact-checkers after claiming on Fox News that FBI Director Comey “said my answers were truthful.”

The Washington Post gave her claim 4 Pinocchios, the equivalent of saying she told a whopper. Here’s a bit of the Post’s conclusion:

As we have seen repeatedly in Clinton’s explanations of the email controversy, she relies on excessively technical and legalistic answers to explain her actions. While Comey did say there was no evidence she lied to the FBI, that is not the same as saying she told the truth to the American public–which was the point of Wallace’s question.

Even the left-leaning Politifact gave Hillary a “pants on fire” rating for this claim:

Clinton repeatedly said she did not have any classified information whatsoever in her email, marked or unmarked. After the FBI investigation, including the interview with Clinton, Comey said she unequivocally did.

Friday, Hillary was again asked about her comments and once again claimed she had never lied about her email server. The Associated Press looked at Clinton’s statements and concluded the following:

Clinton tried to use her appearance at a joint session of associations of black and Hispanic journalists to defuse a mounting controversy over her recent remarks about her emails. Over the past week, she cited Comey’s public comments from last month to demonstrate she was truthful about her private email use and had not put at risk classified information in the messages she sent and received.

What resulted Friday were still more mischaracterizations.

So there you have it. Annenberg Fact Check, CNN, the Washington Post, the Associated Press and even Politifact—none of them what you would call right-wing publications—agree Hillary has been very misleading in her statements. But in the far-left fever swamps, there are still people claiming Hillary never told a lie about her emails.
