Chairwoman of Nevada Dem convention gets threatening calls from angry Bernie Sanders supporters

It was a wild scene at the Democratic convention in Nevada over the weekend. Jazz posted video of Bernie Sanders supporters booing Sen. Barbara Boxer until Boxer began trolling the audience and calling them bullies. In addition, one person was apparently injured, possibly after angry attendees began throwing chairs.

The person who was in charge of overseeing this angry scene was Democratic chairwoman Roberta Lange. Lange’s phone number was leaked online and she received more than 1,000 calls from angry Sanders supporters, some of them suggesting she should be executed.

Tuesday, Nevada reporter Jon Ralston published audio of some of the threatening calls on his website along with screenshots of some text messages. Here are transcripts of a handful of calls (again, provided by Jon Ralston):

MALE CALLER: Hi Roberta Lange. This is a citizen of the United States of America and I just wanted to let you know that I think people like you should be hung in a public execution to show this world that we won’t stand for this sort of corruption. I don’t know what kind of money they are paying to you, but I don’t know how you sleep at night. You are a sick, twisted piece of shit and I hope you burn for this! You can return my call at 619-838-9222. I’d love to go into further detail with you about this, though I am sure you don’t have courage to do so. You cowardless bitch, running off the stage! I hope people find you.

FEMALE CALLER: Hi Roberta, I am pretty sure you’re probably not going to get back to me because you don’t care about the American people, but what you did today, it was corrupt, it was wrong, and the founding fathers of our country would be ashamed of you. You deserve to be in prison, not the chairman for the Democratic Party. Rot in Hell.

[…]

MALE CALLER: That was pretty terrible. You probably just guaranteed fire is in Philadelphia. I’m not a psycho Bernie supporter, but there are some out there and you may have made a bad decision by completely ignoring the democratic process tonight. Thanks.

Lange told the NY Times the threats have made her fear for her family’s safety:

“It’s been vile,” said Ms. Lange, who riled Sanders supporters by refusing their requests for rule changes at the event in Las Vegas. “It’s been threatening messages, threatening my family, threatening my life, threatening my grandchild.”

[…]

“I’m scared for my family,” Ms. Lange said. “Scared for my kids.”

Senator Harry Reid called upon Bernie Sanders to denounce the behavior of his supporters. Sanders has said he does not condone violence but went on to criticize the party’s behavior in Nevada. The Hill reports Sanders said, “the Democratic leadership used its power to prevent a fair and transparent process from taking place.”

The video created by a Bernie Sanders supporter shows the events that angered so many at the Nevada convention:
