The FBI set up a sting operation which prevented a terror attack on a Florida synagogue. The would-be terrorist has been identified as James Medina. WSVN News in Miami reports:
According to law enforcement sources, the FBI set up a sting to thwart what they described as a terror attack at the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, Friday evening.
Sources said agents posing as terrorists were able to stop James Medina, the man, who, they said, may have converted to Islam.
Sources told 7News they are concerned about this case because Medina wanted to take some type of explosive device and chuck it over the wall. Friday was the next-to-last day of Passover, and the center was crowded with people observing the holiday.
The Miami Herald reports on the appearance of Medina in court:
A Hollywood man accused of trying to blow up an Aventura synagogue stood in Miami federal court and gave the judge two names — one real, the other an alias.
“My name is James Medina, also known as ‘James Muhammad,’ ” Medina told Magistrate Judge William Turnoff.

Medina was portrayed as being anti-Semitic and that might have been a factor in his motivation to carry out the alleged deadly plot, according to law enforcement sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.
As you may already know from local news reports, law enforcement authorities arrested an individual on Friday in Aventura on well-founded terrorism suspicions. The leadership of our congregation has been briefed by law enforcement and Jewish community security officials about this situation…We are extremely grateful to our partners in law enforcement for their professionalism, care and commitment throughout this incident, and for providing us with security all year-round.
