This could prove to be an interesting development in the ongoing House investigations into the politicization and weaponization of the Justice Department in general and the FBI in particular. Tara Reade, who previously accused Joe Biden of sexual assault when she worked in his Senate office and recently fled to Russia after being threatened with arrest, has volunteered to testify under oath for the House Weaponization Committee. In a letter from her attorney, Dr. Jonathan Levy, sent to Jim Jordan, Levy describes his client’s willingness to offer testimony and mentions the specific incidents which may be applicable to the committee’s investigations.
Tara Reade in aletter by her attorney, Dr Jonathan Levy, to Chairman Jim Jordan of the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government has requested to testify before Congress regarding her persecution by the FBI and Biden Administration since going public in 2019 about sexual abuse by Joseph Biden in 1993.
Ms. Reade has recently filed for temporary asylum in Moscow, Russia owing to credible threats of arrest in the United States or a third country. She has also filed an Urgent Appeal with the United Nations.
If called to testify before Congress Ms. Reade will describe the sexual assault by Joseph Biden, her determination to report it and the retaliation she suffered. Regarding weaponization of the government, Ms. Reade has been falsely accused of perjury and placed under investigation by a federal grand jury and the FBI. More recently she has been under surveillance and has been publicly targeted by the National Security Administration (NSA).
Attached to the letter was a copy of the ominous subpoena sent to Twitter’s Trust and Safety office back in June 2020 by the US District Court for the Eastern District of California. It demanded that Twitter provide all of the identifying information attached to Reade’s Twitter account(s). A copy of that document was previously sent to Reade herself, suggesting that it carried an implied threat. You’ll note the timing of that subpoena. This was taking place during the height of the 2020 election after Reade had gone public with her allegations against Biden.
It seems unlikely that Tara Reade will testify in person. I asked Dr. Levy about the possibilities and if Reade’s whistleblower status might protect her from arrest and detention were she to return to Washington. He told me that, while she would very much like to be able to testify in person, it was “unclear if she can be protected from retaliation.” He further said that Congress very likely “cannot grant her that sort of immunity or protection” from the weaponized elements of the federal government. If invited by Jordan’s committee, she will most likely testify either in writing or via some sort of videoconference.
How Reade testifies seems less significant than what testimony she might offer. She’s willing to talk about her allegations of sexual abuse at the hands of Joe Biden, naturally. But other than having it officially entered in the congressional record, the public is unlikely to learn many additional details. She’s told her story publicly in many interviews, never seeming to waver in the details.
Of far more interest will be what she can reveal about being hounded by the Justice Department and the courts. How was it that they decided to open a criminal perjury investigation of her dealing with a completely unrelated matter? Why was the NSA interested in her? Perhaps Jordan can bring back Christopher Wray and demand any documents he might have dealing with Tara Reade. She’s a private citizen who likely never would have attracted much (if any) national media or governmental attention had she not brought her accusations against her former boss into the public domain.
This may wind up being the next set of footsteps that the President and the rest of Biden Inc. hear coming down the hall for them. We have certainly lived to see interesting times, as the saying goes.
