In case you somehow missed it yesterday, the Daily Wire caused something of a volcanic eruption on social media this week when they decided to release Matt Walsh’s bombshell movie “What is a Woman” for free on Twitter. The “controversial” film offers a deep dive into the debate over transgenderism and has been vigorously attacked by the left as some sort of “hate” narrative against members of the growing trans cult in America. Someone at Twitter initially flagged the tweet with the movie embedded to suppress its reach, but after complaints were raised, Elon Musk removed the flags and wound up endorsing the movie personally. These decisions drove NBC News to publish a screed against everyone involved.
On Thursday, Twitter was roiled by an organized pressure campaign by conservative pundits seeking to promote a 95-minute anti-transgender video called “What Is A Woman?” Musk, who has staked out views hostile to transgender advocates, initially responded in ways that seemed to satisfy no one before he eventually relented and agreed to promote the video himself. The incident resulted in two high-level departures within 24 hours.
The episode was another window into Musk’s improvisational approach to rewriting Twitter’s rules.
The chief of Twitter’s trust and safety division, Ella Irwin, left the company that same day, after a tenure leading its efforts around content moderation. A second executive, A.J. Brown, whose job was to reassure advertisers that Twitter was a safe place for their brands, also decided to quit, The Wall Street Journal reported. A third person, a program manager who worked on brand safety, said on her Twitter profile that she was now “ex-Twitter.”
NBC decided to label Walsh’s movie “anti-transgender.” Personally, I would call it “pro-sanity.” I finally watched the film yesterday on Twitter. It had been on my list for a long time, along with so many other books and movies I would like to get to but simply haven’t made the time. I now realize that “What is a Woman” is probably one of the most important (and well-made) films of our generation. I literally shed tears several times while watching the film. After it ended, I felt guilty for not having paid for it originally so I went out and ordered another copy of Walsh’s companion book to compensate him a bit. If you haven’t seen it, the opportunity to watch the movie for free on Twitter has been extended through the weekend.
I should warn you in advance that portions of the movie are highly disturbing and very hard to watch. I had considered myself to be quite up to date on this subject, but the reality of what people go through when medically “transitioning” and their experiences after the fact are even more horrible than even I could have imagined. They are explored in graphic detail in the film.
Walsh speaks to a wide variety of people including medical professionals and individuals who have been through the transitioning process. (Sometimes both.) He asks frank questions, frequently framing them in a manner commonly employed by trans activists. The answers he receives – or more often the lack of answers – are quite revealing. But the most common question he asks is found in the movie’s title. “What is a woman?” Virtually none of the subjects were able to form a coherent answer. One of the most enthusiastic subjects who appeared to believe that Walsh was a fellow traveler, answered by saying, “Right?” It was as if she (?) thought the question was a mystery that was clearly impossible to solve.
This lack of coherence among the trans community is on full display and Matt Walsh does an incredible job of bringing that reality to light. But he also demonstrates how this madness is almost entirely a phenomenon found exclusively in modern, liberal, western culture. Walsh travels all the way to Africa to ask some members of a remote indigenous tribe about the issue of transgenderism. He struggles to explain to them what he’s even talking about and the tribe members wind up laughing at him and wondering if he has lost his mind. They have no trouble whatsoever answering the question of what a woman is. They are grounded in reality.
I won’t spoil the film for you with any more details and I’ll just strongly suggest that you take the time to watch it if you haven’t done so already. In one final note about this story, CNN also jumped on the bandwagon and tried to “warn” the public about Walsh’s “hateful” production. In response, Elon Musk burned them to the ground in a single tweet, as reported by Twitchy in a hilarious fashion.
I’m tempted to say that this will drive viewership of your movie, but … no one watches CNN lol
