In Woonsocket, Rhode Island, a middle school teacher came up with a brilliant plan last month. She decided to use her Twitter account to help people afflicted with COVID-19 earn a little extra money during these trying times. How? She offered to pay anyone infected with the novel coronavirus if they would cough on President Trump. The tweet has since been deleted, but it originally read, “Somebody with Covid-19, I will pay you to cough on #Trump.”
Apparently this wasn’t as popular of a sentiment as Amy Bednarz had imagined. She immediately came under fire from the Education Board. And now, after much wrath and acrimony, she has resigned. The Board accepted her resignation gracefully. (WJAR 10 News)
A Woonsocket teacher accused of urging people infected with the coronavirus to cough on President Donald Trump has resigned.
The Woonsocket School Committee voted 5-0 Wednesday night to accept a settlement agreement with Amy Bednarz.
As part of that agreement, Bednarz tendered her resignation…
In subsequent post, she identified herself as a sixth-grade ELL teacher at Villanova Middle School in Woonsocket. The account has since been deleted.
The linked article claims that her entire Twitter account was deleted, but when I looked, it appeared to still be live. There were no tweets on it from later than April of 2017, however. Perhaps it’s an older account that she abandoned in favor of a new one.
In some ways, it’s rather amazing that they managed to remove Bednarz from her position. A quick look at her Linked-in profile reveals that she’s been teaching in that school system since at least 2006. As such, she almost certainly had tenure by this point. And removing a tenured teacher, as we all know, is nearly impossible, even if they’ve been accused of sexually assaulting a student. That’s particularly true if her union goes to bat for her.
I suppose it would be easy enough to write this off as just another liberal venting her frustration at the Bad Orange Man in a fit of pique, but it could clearly be interpreted as something more. I wouldn’t be terribly shocked if the Secret Service is looking into the matter. It’s one thing to wish ill on the President. It’s quite another to either threaten to do harm yourself or to solicit someone else to do it for compensation.
Given the President’s age and relative state of health (which is okay, but let’s face it… he’s not in the best of shape), Donald Trump would be in the category most vulnerable to a worst-case outcome if he contracted the disease. So you might be able to make the case that such a plan could be considered a conspiracy to attempt to assassinate the President of the United States.
Bednarz’s aggressive attitude is probably far from the biggest concern here, however. The odds of her finding someone with the virus who could actually get within literal spitting distance of the POTUS were probably slim to none. What’s potentially more disconcerting was the fact that this clearly deranged woman was teaching elementary and middle school students for a least the last fourteen years or more.
I’m left wondering what was in her lesson plans. If this is an example of how her unhinged brain works, just imagine what sort of subtle or even overt messages she was implanting in the minds of the sixth and seventh-grade students placed in her charge. She’s probably been indoctrinating generations of students into the world of liberal ideology, preparing them for their own future careers as social justice warriors and Antifa members.
And do we really believe that Bednarz was some outlier, with the rest of the faculty being just fine? Heck, she’s probably just the only one we managed to catch.
