The Democrats can't get over Kavanaugh's appointment

Remember all the Sturm und Drang swirling around Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings? I bet you thought that was ancient history by this point, didn’t you? Well buckle up, little campers. The Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are partying like it’s 2018 and they’re getting ready to do it all again. As the Daily Caller reports today, Jerry Nadler and his pals are demanding documents from the National Archives relating to Kavanaugh’s time working in the White House under George W. Bush and by golly, they’re going to have some hearings.

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee asked the National Archives Tuesday to release documents from Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s service in the George W. Bush White House.

The request tracks Democratic promises to scrutinize Kavanaugh even after his confirmation to the Supreme Court.

“The Senate Judiciary Committee received only a small fraction of Justice Kavanaugh’s White House records before voting on his nomination,” Democratic Reps. Jerry Nadler of California and Henry Johnson of Georgia wrote in a letter to the Archives. Nadler chairs the Judiciary Committee, while Johnson leads a subcommittee that oversees the federal bench.

This is basically unprecedented. Kavanaugh has been through rigorous investigations twice at this point, once in 2006 and again when he was appointed to the Supreme Court. As Congressman Doug Collins, ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee put it, it’s nothing short of harassment.

Before the Judiciary Committee launches into an investigation, aren’t they supposed to have something specific to investigate? Has there been some allegation of wrongdoing during Kavanaugh’s time working in the Bush White House made? Nobody is suggesting anything of the sort, so that means that this is basically just a fishing expedition. Nadler and Johnson are making a joke of the entire process for no purpose other than putting on a political circus act in the runup to the 2020 elections.

And what precisely do they plan to do with the results of this “investigation?” Democrats who are still angry about his confirmation have been putting forth theories (without proof) that Justice Kavanaugh may have perjured himself during the confirmation process. Even if they could somehow build a case around that, what then? The only Supreme Court justice to ever be impeached was Samuel Chase in 1805 and he was acquitted in the end. Do these characters really think they’ll have a 2/3 majority in the Senate to get rid of Kavanaugh or is this just another political ploy to make him seem less legitimate?

Give me a break. You can talk all you like about Donald Trump being a divisive figure, but if anything, he’s only a symptom of the times. The two parties in Congress are currently acting more like bitter spouses going through divorce proceedings than legislators. And this needs to stop.
