You may recall that when the New York Post reported that veterans had walked out of a meeting with AOC her team denied it happened. She had been holding a private meeting with community leaders in the Bronx and decided to start criticizing US foreign policy. At that point, a few people expressed their disgust and left the meeting. But when asked about it, her spokesperson said that the only person to leave the meeting had to go and pick up their children from school.

Turns out that there were plenty of witnesses, and that’s not how they remember things playing out at all. (Daily Caller)

Two attendees of the Bronx Community Board 11 meeting, including the board’s chairman and district manager, say that military veterans Silvio Mazzella and Anthony Vitaliano walked out of a private meeting with Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez…

Mazzela, treasurer of Community Board 11, told the New York Post that he left the meeting because, “She knocks the country, she knocks the president. And that’s not what America is about.”

Vitaliano, who worked for the NYPD for nearly 40 years, told the New York Post, “I just couldn’t hear her BS anymore. I just got up, got my umbrella in my hand and walked right out.”

Meeting attendee Jeremy Warneke, also a military veteran who served in Iraq and now serves as the board’s district manager, said that he had to leave the meeting partway through due to “a family obligation.”

So there was a kernel of truth to what AOC’s spokesman said. One of the three veterans had a “family obligation” which I suppose we can assume involved picking up their kids. But that fragment of the story is wiped out by saying that only one person left when others clearly had.

Not for nothing, but what an incredibly dumb thing to send your spokesperson out to lie about. There were more than a dozen people in a relatively small room and they all must have seen what happened. When two of the veterans complained about her trash talking our foreign policy and the President, she basically called them liars. Of course they were going to go back to the press and set the record straight.

That’s just poor staffing and dumb public relations. And no, I’m not saying “dumb” as in “she’s dumb.” There’s a difference between a lack of intelligence and a lack of specific skills related to your position. Of course, I say this while being fully aware that AOC has already claimed she could win the Nobel Prize for physics and people would still call her dumb. Just another day in the center ring of the political circus I suppose.
