London Mayor's answer to terrorism? Ban cars

If you’re worried about criminals shooting someone, you get the government to ban guns, right? And at least in parts of Europe, if you’re concerned that the criminals without guns will start stabbing people, you ban knives. But what if they start plowing into crowds of people with their motor vehicles? If you’re Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, you ban cars! (Daily Caller)

London Mayor Sadiq Khan responded to Wednesday’s reported terror attack by suggesting that vehicles be banned in certain parts of the city, particularly near the government buildings where Parliament meets.

Khan told BBC Radio that the important thing was to ensure that the people continued to have access to their government, but that measures to keep members of Parliament safe would benefit everyone.

“I think there would be lots of challenges if we would do the whole square. It is a thoroughfare for cars, vehicles and commercial deliveries going through London. So it’s possible to have a designed solution … in keeping our buildings and people as safe as we can do. And also not losing what is so wonderful about our city that is a vibrant democracy, people can walk around safely.”

But Khan isn’t talking about banning vehicles throughout all of the city of London. That would be crazy, right? No, he’s only talking about certain areas. And those would be the areas where the members of Parliament work.

Sure, Mr. Mayor. We’ll just protect Parliament Square from possible terrorists in cars, but the rest of the little people in London can fend for themselves.

There’s another bit of the Mayor’s attitude toward his subjects, er… constituents on display this week and it has to do with the city’s ban on knives. Hizzoner wants all the young folks to know that bad things happen if you carry a knife and it has nothing to do with criminals.

Don’t risk your future by carrying a knife. London needs you alive?” Excuse me, but is there any other way to interpret that statement other than this being a threat that the cops will kill you if they find you with a knife?

I understand that the Brits don’t have all of the same constitutionally assured rights that we enjoy in America, but the Mayor is sounding more and more like a tin-pot dictator every time he speaks up these days. But that’s who Londoners chose to lead them, so we’re left to fall back on Mencken’s main rule of modern society. We all get the government we deserve. Well done, London. Enjoy it!
