CNN's Don Lemon: We have an obligation to call Trump a racist

It’s another great day for journalism, not to mention the ever-expanding market for Trump Doom Porn (more on that in a moment). And where would we turn for such an alert? This. Is. CNN.

We now take you to Don Lemon, explaining why he feels compelled to refer to the President as a racist. It’s not a matter of style, you see. Nor is it preference, opinion or any other personal trait. It’s a journalistic obligation. (WaPo)

CNN’S Don Lemon told a New York audience Friday that he has an “obligation” to call President Trump “racist” or “racist-adjacent” during broadcasts because the evidence points to no other alternative.

The co-anchor of “CNN Tonight” told attendees at Variety’s Entertainment & Technology NYC Summit that calling the president a racist is what journalists should do as a matter of integrity. His reasoning: an objective analysis of the situation “leads you to nothing else but this president being racist.”

“He’s certainly racist-adjacent,” Mr. Lemon, the keynote speaker, said. “If you have the evidence that shows you, that leads you to nothing else but this president being racist, then I feel it’s my obligation as a journalist to say it. On [Jan. 11 when] I said it, and I don’t regret saying it. I believe that to be true.”

If that wasn’t enough for you, Lemon went on to put a cherry on top of this feast by saying “he loves going to work” each day because “CNN has refused to pick sides” when it comes to Trump.

I’ll just let that one sink in for a moment…

You can at least sort of understand why Democrats fighting our endless electoral wars like to call Trump a racist. That’s because, at least on their agenda, all Republicans are racists and pretty much anything done or said by any white person is racist. But, as their own slogan reminds us daily… This Is CNN. Aren’t they supposed to at least make an effort to appear outside of the ideological fray? I would love to hear Lemon sit down one of these days and list off this compilation of irrefutable “evidence” defining Trump in this fashion.

I imagine he’d start with the golden escalator speech and Trump’s poorly crafted comments about illegal immigrants from Mexico. That was a speech about crime, but it clearly could have been written a bit better. What else would Lemon claim? That increased deportations are racist? No doubt, since Democratic candidates say it all the time. But that’s yet another comment on law enforcement.

No doubt Don Lemon is salivating at the idea Trump might be within days of “finally being taken down.” That’s the recurring theme which has popped up yet again this week after Giuliani’s comments. The latest Trump Doom Porn is that the payment to porn star Stormy Daniels will be seen as an in-kind campaign contribution which wasn’t reported, leading to some sort of criminal conviction and, presumably, impeachment. Of course, this has happened with every story that’s broken regarding Russia, the Mueller investigation and Ben Carson’s new dining room table.

It’s hard to knock the doom porn phenomenon because it really cheers up liberals and drives clicks. But if something is going to actually happen, as opposed to some alternate fantasy world, perhaps we could just get on with it and break the news? If you listen to most of the folks at CNN and MSNBC, Trump’s presidency has been hanging by a thread since he finished his inaugural address.
