Didn’t I read something just the other day about Rahm Emanuel suing the White House to protect their grant money and sanctuary city status?

Perhaps Mayor Emanuel will want to take a quick second look at some of his policies. He wants Chicago to turn a blind eye to illegal aliens in their midst, effectively aiding and abetting them in their efforts to avoid deportation. But does he feel that way about Jose Cruz Morales-Cortes? Mr. Morales-Cortes somehow failed to take advantage of Chicago’s “welcoming city” policies and has wound up in ICE custody. But not before allegedly committing a string of armed robberies. What makes this individual even more interesting is that we’ve already booted him out of the country twice. (CBS Chicago)

A man who has been deported from the United States twice was indicted last week for six robberies in Chicago and several suburbs since December.

Jose Cruz Morales-Cortes, 45, was indicted on six counts of robbery on Aug. 1, according to a statement from the FBI.

Morales-Cortes, of Gary, Indiana, was deported for being in the country illegally on March 26, 2004 and again on Aug. 29, 2016, the FBI said. He was caught in the country again on Jan 20, 2017, and was in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when he was indicted for the robberies.

Fortunately, it sounds like Morales-Cortes didn’t manage to kill or seriously injure anyone (that we know of at least), but the media has released the list of locations he’s accused of holding up. They’re primarily convenience stores and fast food joints so he remains in the realm of comparatively small time villains, but he spurs the obvious questions which keep coming up over and over again. How was this guy back in Chicago? He must be pretty good at jumping the border and traveling cross country to make the trip so often.

And where did he get a gun? Chicago (and Illinois in general) has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. I somehow doubt that an illegal alien with previous deportations was able to pass a background check. This guy is something of a poster child for an array of current topics of debate ranging from sanctuary city policies and law enforcement support to gun control. Perhaps Mayor Emanuel would care to explain to his citizens how it is that Jose Cruz Morales-Cortes was free to travel the countryside and stick up a half dozen businesses.

It would be nice, but I won’t be holding my breath. The mayors of sanctuary cities don’t seem to care for discussions involving the failures of their policies until the wolves are already inside the door.
