We already devoted a fair amount of ink to the riots in Berkeley (though you may only have known of them as “peaceful protests” if you get all your information from cable news) but apparently we weren’t the only ones who had heard about it. One of UC Berkeley’s most famous alumni is Dilbert creator Scott Adams. He raised a number of hackles on the left over the course of the election by not being willing to completely call for the impeachment of Donald Trump before he was even elected, but the riots seemed to be a bridge too far. The formerly generous benefactor of the school took to Twitter to announce that he was terminating the relationship.

On his blog, Adams decided to give a full explanation of his choice. He makes reference to the protesters comparing Trump to Hitler and then delivers some harsh medicine without much in the way of comedy to wash it down.

Speaking of Hitler, I’m ending my support of UC Berkeley, where I got my MBA years ago. I have been a big supporter lately, with both my time and money, but that ends today. I wish them well, but I wouldn’t feel safe or welcome on the campus. A Berkeley professor made that clear to me recently. He seems smart, so I’ll take his word for it.

I’ve decided to side with the Jewish gay immigrant who has an African-American boyfriend, not the hypnotized zombie-boys in black masks who were clubbing people who hold different points of view. I feel that’s reasonable, but I know many will disagree, and possibly try to club me to death if I walk on campus.

Yesterday I asked my most liberal, Trump-hating friend if he ever figured out why Republicans have most of the Governorships, a majority in Congress, the White House, and soon the Supreme Court. He said, “There are no easy answers.”

While I’m not getting my hopes up, this at least has the potential to be a stepping stone toward the future. We now know that the Left loves boycotts more than anything else (aside from rioting) as their preferred method of getting their message on cable news non-stop and forcing compliance from the private sector. It’s a routine which has worked for them in the past and they have very little reason to give up on it now. The bottom line is to hit them in the wallet until they bend to your will.

Well, colleges run on money as well and the larger ones in particular rely on generous donations to keep their endowments stocked up. There’s only two ways to hit the colleges in the same fashion. The first is to threaten to cut off federal funding, something which should be a priority at the White House right about now. But the other route is social pressure on former graduates who will hopefully, at some point, become so embarrassed by these tactics that they cut off the flow of cash.

Will we see more of this? As I said… I’m not holding my breath. But if it’s going to happen, Scott Adams is an excellent representative to get the ball rolling.
