What a difference a day makes. It was only yesterday when we were discussing Trump Twitter Flap Number 73,261 in which he called for imprisoning or cancelling the citizenship of people who burn flags. I chimed in along with the rest of the crew here, deciding that it was just possible that Trump might be trying to bait the protesters into actually burning some flags. (Because nobody really likes that even if they agree it’s protected speech and it would make the opposition less popular.) Perhaps he really thought that and perhaps he didn’t. But no matter the original plan, it worked. (The Hill)
Protesters burned the United States flag outside of Trump International Hotel in New York City Tuesday, following President-elect Donald Trump’s suggestion that flag burners be jailed or lose their citizenship…
Trump made the suggestion that flag burners face “consequences” Tuesday morning.
“Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag — if they do, there must be consequences — perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
Congratulations, guys. You got yourselves on a cable news reel that will repeat for a couple of days and whoever sees it will associate you with burning the nation’s flag. But who are these geniuses? Take a close look at the picture below and you’ll see that these “random protesters” are all wearing the same shirt.
“Revolution Nothing Less?” The grammar may be a bit on the weak side, but at least you’re expressing a theme. If we take a bit closer look at our heroes we find that they’ve helpfully provided a web site for us to visit. (WARNING: This thing set off about five alarms on my anti-virus software, so if you click on it, it’s at your own risk.) Hm…. doesn’t look familiar. Revcom.us? Is that some sort of lipstick company? Nope… it’s the “Voice of the Revolutionary Communist Party USA.”

Imagine that… communists burning American flags? What next… dogs chasing cats? Still, these may prove to be useful idiots in their own fashion. If this is the sole image that voters take with them when they think of the people opposing the next president, that will be just fine. And besides, these guys probably aren’t all that far off in ideology from most of the people who have been opposing Trump from day one anyway.
