There may be a few of you who remain blissfully unaware of the annual hippie festival in the western desert known as Burning Man. You can find all of the exhausting details at the link, but it’s described by the organizers as, “the effort to co-create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to art and community.” It’s a rather epic scale event in the liberal community which features hilarious performance art that gets featured (well… mocked) on conservative sites around the web every year. The fundamental premise is allegedly based on equality, love, unicorns and peace. But that apparently doesn’t extend to anyone who shows up flashing a bit too much cash, such as happened in this year’s event which wrapped up yesterday.

One group set up their own miniature fortress with lush accommodations and high tech pop music parties. The air conditioning, fine food and other trappings of the one percent were a bit too much for some of the simpler pagans to handle it seems, so they they did what any other group of peace loving utopians would under such stressful circumstances. They wrecked the place. (Telegraph)

As anger boiled over one camp called White Ocean, which hosts high profile DJs on a state-of-the-art stage, became the focus of anger.

The camp first made an appearance at Burning Man three years ago and its founders included the British DJ Paul Oakenfold and the son of a Russian billionaire.

While the camp was holding a party at which revelers listened to techno music it was attacked by vandals who flooded it with water and cut power lines.

In a dismayed post on Facebook camp leaders said: “A very unfortunate and saddening event happened last night at White Ocean, something we thought would never be possible in our Burning Man utopia.

Imagine the nerve of these rich jerks having large supplies of clean, potable water in the middle of the desert. And electric lights! What next… cooked food?

While some decried the damage and violence, others heralded the start of the revolution.

Tony Wichowski, a Burner, said: “And so the revolution has begun. Taking Burning Man back from the parasite class, back from the electronic dance music tourists. Taking Burning Man back for the people. This wasn’t much but it’s a great start.”

Danielle Palmer, another Burner, accused the camp of having “paid staff and bouncers”. She said: “You’re a closed camp and not very welcoming. I got yelled at for coming to close to your ‘gates’.

So they weren’t “welcoming” enough. In other words, they held a private party with some high end gifts, food and drinks, and if any of the non-paying festival goers tried to crash the event, they were turned away. What’s an equality minded socialist to do at that point? They clearly had no choice but to flood the place and wash away the stench of capitalism.

It’s all a very bad joke of course, since there are tens of millions of dollars flooded into this festival every year and some of the richest liberals in the country show up and blow a lot of cash on the event. These folks at “White Ocean” were just a bit too obvious about the wealth on display and were unwilling to feed the masses. Then again, one look at their “camp” will let you know that this was a bit over the top for a desert retreat.
