We recently talked about the latest murder spree by an illegal alien which spanned two states and took nearly a half dozen lives. That’s both shocking and offensive to normal sensibilities, but as it turns out it’s apparently not all that unusual. Recent data turned over to Congress by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has told a dire tale which has caught the attention of our government at last. Well over 100 illegal aliens who were apprehended in the United States by law enforcement and then later released went on to commit murder just in the last six years. (Washington Times)

More than 100 illegal immigrants caught but released by the Obama administration over the last five years have gone on to be charged with murders after they were set free, according to a new report being released Monday from the Center for Immigration Studies.

In all, some 121 immigrants who were freed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement between 2010 and 2014 went on to be charged with a total of 135 homicide-related crimes. Another three immigrants were charged with murders in 2015, bringing to 124 the total number of murder suspects the government had, then released.

Two of the immigrants in question had even been convicted of homicide before, but they were released anyway and went on to rack up new murder charges again, the report said. The others had amassed 464 total criminal charges, ranging from drugs to drunken driving, before they landed on the homicide list.

We could plod through the list of the most high profile murders committed by illegal immigrants here yet again, but what’s the point? The voices of the families of these victims and the outrage expressed in conservative media don’t seem to have swayed the attitude of the White House or Democratic lawmakers one bit. This has become the “new normal” along with so many other disappointing and horrifying trends in 21st century America.

I understand – at least to a point – the arguments of those who say that you can’t possibly round up 10 or 13 or 26 million illegals and get them all out of the country at one time. But what about the ones that we actually do manage to catch and slap a set of handcuffs on? Is data such as this not a sufficient reason to put the resources in place to deport the illegal immigrants we get in the back of a squad car? Apparently not.

Unfortunately, this plague won’t be solved entirely from the federal level even if we had a president who was interested in doing so. Enforcement away from the border has to start with the local cops, the state police, the sheriff’s departments and, yes, citizens who see something and say something. Too many of our states and cities are acting as sanctuaries, though, not only failing to help customs and enforcement officials, but actively thwarting their efforts by refusing to hold illegals for processing until federal officials can arrive. That’s a good starting point in addressing the problem because such local and state governments could have their federal funding cut until they agree to enforce the law.

Sadly, we don’t have anyone in charge right now willing to take any action along those lines. And the way things are going in the GOP primary, we probably won’t for a long time to come.
