Clinton goes full satire with call for more transparency in political donations

When I first received a link to this story from one of our readers, I’ll confess that I immediately suspected I was being pranked. But after a bit of checking it turned out to be legitimate. As part of Hillary Clinton’s effort to hit the reset button on her campaign for the fall, she’s decided to come out in favor of making political donors disclose their identities across the board. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is calling on companies to be required to disclose their political donations and for the creation of a donation-matching program intended to boost the influence of small donors’ giving.

In campaign finance proposals released Tuesday that build on Clinton’s desire to reverse the effects of the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United ruling, her campaign says that she would push for federal legislation demanding more “effective” disclosure of political spending and urge the Securities and Exchange Commission to require publicly traded companies to disclose all political spending to their shareholders.

“We have to end the flood of secret, unaccountable money that is distorting our elections, corrupting our political system and drowning out the voices of too many everyday Americans,” Clinton said in a statement ahead of the campaign’s formal rollout, which will include a web video.

Where to even begin with this…

I wonder if Hillary thinks that companies such as the one which runs a group of private schools should disclose the donations they make to – just for example – the Clinton Foundation while getting favors from the Secretary of State? That’s a particularly good target for her to go after since they later hired that same Secretary of State’s husband to a phony baloney job which paid him millions and millions of dollars.

When she’s done cracking down on them I’m sure she’ll have some harsh words for the Priorities USA Super PAC, which hauled in nearly $15M in just the month of July. Was any of that money from evil corporations or billionaires? Sadly we’ll never know, given that it’s a Super PAC and all. I’m trying to remember who Priorities USA is backing but I just can’t recall it at the moment.

There are plenty more targets for Hillary to go after as part of this new crusade. There’s a large consortium of defense contractors who arranged a deal to sell $29B in weapons and defense technology to Saudi Arabia. That transaction looked pretty dodgy, but after all of them donated huge sums to a certain foundation, the head of that foundation (who also just happened to be the Secretary of State) got the deal approved. Oh.. and Saudi Arabia kicked in more than $10M to the foundation just for some icing on the cake. The new and improved candidate Hillary Clinton should definitely look into that one!

This list could go on far past the tolerance of any of you to continue reading. There has been so much money flushed into the Clinton Foundation by corporations and foreign nations, mixing around with the millions upon millions paid in speaking fees and other giveaways to the Clintons’ personal accounts that it could make your head spin. And the number of them who had and still have business before the United States Government is staggering. But yes, Secretary Clinton… you should definitely endorse having somebody crack down on this at once.
