Black Lives Matter co-founder threatens to "shut down" GOP convention

Who exactly is running things over at the top secret headquarters of the Black Lives Matter movement, assuming that such even exists? There seems to be some confusion on the messaging. You may recall that when Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors seized the stage from Martin O’Malley at Netroots Nation after the candidate was foolish enough to say that all human lives matter, she prefaced her comments as follows:

β€œIt’s not like we like shutting (expletive deleted) down, but we have to,”

So they don’t like shutting **** down unless there’s no other choice. Fair enough, I suppose. But that was way back in the distant past… at least a couple of weeks. Today things are different, and when the subject came up again Patrisse was singing a bit of a different tune. (Examiner)

“And we — many folks have asked why would you go after the Democratic party? They’re on our side. What about the Republican party? And trust and believe that any opportunity we have to shut down a Republican convention, we will,” she said. We will make sure that our voices are made loud and clear. And we also want to be clear that the Democratic party isn’t off the hook.”

It’s unclear whether Ms. Cullors was referring to the Republican National Convention next summer in Ohio or if she was simply confused and meant to speak to the debates coming up next month. Either way, the agenda seems clear, at least for today. If they can shut down any discussion not directly speaking to the one subject they wish to discuss, they will do so. No other issues have any relevance.

Of course, there’s more than a little confusion on any number of subjects when it comes to Patrisse. She started off her diatribe with a reference which has long since been rendered to the dustbins of fake history.

The statement was made after she was asked what she would like to see from candidates running for president. Cullors said she wants candidates to “actually call movement leaders” and arrange meetings to “have a conversation with us about what’s happened this last year since the murder of Mike Brown.”

As the Examiner article goes on to note, this took place during a panel discussion on MSNBC and none of the other hosts on the set bothered attempting to correct her. But she’s speaking to an audience which apparently inhabits an alternate universe to begin with. While there are certainly some questionable cases of the use of deadly force which merit investigation, Michael Brown’s death in Ferguson, Missouri is not one of them. Not only did a grand jury reach that conclusion, but both Barack Obama and Eric Holder arrived at the same finding. Diverse media voices as far to the left as Jonathan Capehart have written off that case and reluctantly admitted that Officer Darren Wilson acted completely appropriately on that fateful day.

And yet none of that matters to Ms. Cullors and her followers. They’ve already closed the history books on that particular chapter and in their minds Michael Brown was some sort of saint who was martyred on the alter of social justice. And this is the discussion they plan to have. If you have other ideas, the discussion shall be terminated… forcefully if need be. So remember, kids; black lives matter. Your concerns do not.
