She’s baaaaack.
Politico checks in this week with former Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell as she prepares for the release of her new book, Troublemaker. I think Ms. O’Donnell is something of a Frank Sinatra fan, adopting one of his more famous sentiments. “Regrets… I’ve had a few.”
Christine O’Donnell reveals in her new book that the “lowest moment” of her failed 2010 Senate campaign came when the Delaware Republican made the now-infamous assurance to voters: “I am not a witch.”
Writing in her memoir, “Troublemaker: Let’s Do What It Takes to Make America Great Again,” set to be released on Tuesday, the tea party-backed former candidate says she never wanted to make the ad but was urged to do it by an insistent media consultant.
This apparently isn’t an entire tome of self-flagellation, though. While she takes responsibility for her campaign’s missteps as the person at the top, she not only drops some blame on her consultants but on members of her own party around the country as well. Chief among her targets is none other than Karl Rove.
O’Donnell also criticizes former George W. Bush advisor Karl Rove, saying that he has betrayed Republican values for political gain.
Rove was a leader of the “liberal influences” that “severely tarnished Bush’s legacy among true Constitutionalists,” she says. “It was Karl Rove’s style of Machiavellian, unprincipled realpolitik that destroyed the Republican brand.”
Call me suspicious by nature, but I somehow think there’s a bit more personal animosity regarding Bush’s Brain than simply a general failure to support conservative principles. I seem to recall that back during the election in the fall of 2010, Rove weighed in on her race in a somewhat less than favorable fashion.
At the time, Karl said he was “unimpressed” with her abilities, mentioned her “checkered background,” and opined that she had a tendency to “say nutty things.” He finished that particular interview off by essentially writing off the race as a loss when it was still many weeks from the finish line. So it’s probably not surprising if she’s got a bit of an ax to grind with him.
Still, it was certainly one of the more colorful races in recent memory. If you want to pre-order the book, you can do so at B&N.
