“There’s a lot of heart on this team,” Menino said in comments caught on camera. “Let me just tell you. KJ is great but Hondo is really the inspiration. Hondo drives that team. I’m really pleased what’s happened the last few nights.”

“KJ” was the nickname of former Phoenix Suns point guard Kevin Johnson, who retired in 2000 and is now the Mayor of Sacramento. Menino obviously meant to refer to All-Star forward Kevin Garnett, 21.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks against the Heat, who is often referred to by his initials “KG.”

“Hondo” was the nickname of Havlicek, a Hall of Fame Celtics guard who retired in 1978. Menino obviously was referring to All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo, who is averaging 20.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 11.0 assists and 1.8 steals against the Heat.
