Right at the end of the weekend, a mass of black teenagers fighting each other demolished the interior of a Chipotle restaurant in DC’s Navy Yard. For anyone who’s been local for the last 10 years, the venue is no surprise. The once peaceful and beautiful Navy Yard has for the past few years consistently served as a backdrop to riotous behavior, murder attempts, robberies and grand theft auto, all in plain view of the public.
Video of the Chipotle brawl went viral Sunday evening. One detail about it stood out to onlookers: A scared family with young children huddled behind a wall just witnessing the melee.
In the world of increasing lawlessness, it’s been rare to see innocent bystanders sitting in the middle of these maelstroms just bearing witness, waiting for the storm to pass. I can’t think of one example besides this one.
The other reason this one was different is the brawl occurred just days after DC US Attorney Jeanine Pirro made a pledge.
