Trump Needed to Sell Strengths on Economy, Border. He Did.

Ahead of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, he promised he’d discuss how we are a country “that’s now doing well with the greatest economy we’ve ever had.”

That’s what he needed to do, and overall, he did.

“Our nation is back,” Trump said at the start of his speech Feb. 24, marking the secure border, reduced crime, falling inflation and improving economy. “The state of our union is strong.”

During his roughly two-hour address, the president stayed mostly upbeat and on message (for Trump).

His theme was “America at 250: Strong, Prosperous and Respected,” with the country’s 250th birthday and the midterm elections just months away, and polls showing Americans are concerned with the direction of the country.
