The CFPB told staff Tuesday that it will remain open if the government shuts down, according to an email seen by Reuters.
Unlike most federal agencies, the CFPB’s budget is not set through annual congressional appropriations, meaning its operations are unaffected by a lapse in government funding.

Since President Donald Trump assumed control of the agency earlier this year, its operations have been significantly scaled back as officials pursue court approval to dismiss the majority of staff, Reuters noted.
