Court Upholds FL Law Bans Noncitizens, Non-Residents From Gathering Ballot Initiative Petitions

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday allowed the state to enforce a new law that bans noncitizens and non-Florida residents from collecting petitions for constitutional amendment ballot initiatives.

“Neither Californians nor Colombians have a right to collect petitions from Floridians who wish to change the Florida Constitution,” Attorney General James Uthmeier said. “The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed and put a stop to a district court that tried to legislate from the bench. Big win for our Constitution!”

Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power celebrated the ruling, stating, “non residents and non citizens CANNOT collect petitions!”
