Britain Waking Up Slowly to Palestinian Threat

Palestine Action has been banned from protesting outside parliament after breaking into an RAF base and damaging military planes last week.

Sir Mark Rowley, the Metropolitan Police commissioner, said he was “shocked and frustrated” at a planned protest on Monday in support of the group, which is soon expected to be proscribed as a terrorist organisation.

The Met has placed restrictions on the protest, including an exclusion zone around parliament, and stipulating that it must begin after midday and end by 3pm. Organisers have moved the planned event to Trafalgar Square.

“This is an organised extremist criminal group, whose proscription as terrorists is being actively considered,” Rowley said in a statement.

“Members are alleged to have caused millions of pounds of criminal damage, assaulted a police officer with a sledgehammer and last week claimed responsibility for breaking into an airbase and damaging aircraft. Multiple members of the group are awaiting trial accused of serious offences.
