House Passes Bill to End D.C. 'Sanctuary City' Status

The Republican-controlled House on Thursday night passed legislation requiring Washington, D.C., to comply with federal immigration laws and end its status as a so-called sanctuary city.

The bill, if passed in the GOP-led Senate and signed into law, would block D.C. policies that restrict it from sharing immigration status information with the Department of Homeland Security and prevent it from complying with Immigration and Customs Enforcement requests to detain people until ICE officers can take them into custody.

The measure passed 224-194, with 11 Democrats voting with Republicans to pass the measure, according to the news outlet Roll Call.
