How close was Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams to becoming Joe Biden’s 2020 running mate?

Close enough, it seems, to be targeted by Kamala Harris’ team of political operatives who were trying to elevate the California U.S. senator to Biden’s ticket and help her become the nation’s first female vice president and woman of color to hold that position.

That revelation is among the many described in the book that has taken the American political airwaves and discussion boards by storm. Written by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, “Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House” was released April 1.

The book details the 2024 presidential election, during which Biden - then an incumbent president - abandoned his reelection campaign only weeks after a disastrous Atlanta debate performance against Republican Donald Trump.

...But the book also describes Harris’ efforts to become Biden’s running mate in his 2020 challenge to then-President Donald Trump. Allen and Parnes described how Harris’ campaign ran a “dark arts operation to undermine the competition, circulating negative information on [Harris’] rivals.
