A woman convicted of preparing acts of terrorism—planning to take her own children to become martyrs for ISIS—gets a special accommodation from the police because she’s upset about her mugshot? Would this ever happen for any other faith? Imagine if a convicted terrorist requested a different image because they didn’t like how they looked—would the police rush to comply? Of course not. 

This woman was planning to indoctrinate her own children, had a stash of SIM cards to conceal her extremist activity, and was deeply embedded in ISIS propaganda networks. Yet the focus of the authorities is on making sure her feelings aren’t hurt by a photograph. Meanwhile, ordinary Brits who get burgled can’t even get the police to turn up, never mind appeasement on an official police photograph. 

It’s a shocking illustration of the warped priorities in modern Britain. The same establishment that would drag someone to court for the crime of hurty words online is bending over backwards to accommodate a convicted terrorist. It sends the message that certain groups are treated with kid gloves, while law-abiding citizens get the short end of the stick. If we’re to take national security seriously, this culture of appeasement needs to end—immediately.
