New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said that the rally in New York City for Donald Trump last week backfired on him, and gave her the opportunity to “remind” New Yorkers that casting a vote in the state for a Republican makes them, personally, “anti-American.”
The Democrat appeared on MSNBC’s PoliticsNation Saturday to discuss the election and Trump’s rally with host Rev. Al Sharpton.
Sharpton asked Hochul first about House races in the state and the potential Democratic majority, before moving on to ask about Trump’s rally, which has been a source of major controversy, and in particular a joke at the expense of Puerto Rico from an opening act comic, which Hochul said was “so painful.”
“You do not think in this great country that you we should have leaders who either say this themselves or will tolerate it at one of their rallies,” she said. “I think this rally backfired on him.”
