As part of a plea agreement, a former Kirkwood High School teacher pleaded guilty to two counts of endangering a child and was sentenced Tuesday to five years' probation.

Christopher Stephens initially faced eight different charges involving three victims who said they were sexually assaulted and raped by him in the '90s. ...

[Victim Katie Pappageorge] said child endangerment doesn't go far enough,

"I looked it up in the statute, and it could mean that you had sex with an under-17-year-old that you were charged with the care with, or it can mean that you cooked meth in your house," she said.

This doesn't even require Stephens to register as a sex offender, apparently. Critics on social media are blaming the judge, but the prosecutors cut this deal. Perhaps the prosecutors couldn't get enough evidence to convict on the stronger charges, but this really seems like weak sauce.
