A few weeks ago –due to massive fraud concerning the identities of sponsors and immigrants– the U.S. suspended the program that allowed legal immigration from four Caribbean nations, including Cuba. The new “improved” program is supposed to reduce fraud by intensifying the vetting of sponsors in the U.S.
Critics of this program, mostly Republicans, claim that the new safeguards are insufficient to identify criminals, foreign agents, and other undesirables, or sponsors with fake identities who engage in human trafficking. The program brings 30,000 migrants per month to the U.S. and has thus far allowed about a half million of them to settle in this country.

The Biden administration is restarting an immigration program that allows migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela to come to the United States, and it is including “additional vetting” of their U.S.-based financial sponsors following fraud concerns.
The Department of Homeland Security had suspended the program earlier this month to investigate the concerns but indicated that an internal review found no widespread fraud among sponsors.
