Most of Cuba Dark During 14 Hour Power Outage

Breakdowns of several power plants across Cuba left most of the island without power on Friday. Cubans were left in the dark and in sweltering heat for over 14 hours, adding to the misery they are already suffering. While blackouts have become commonplace in communist Cuba, the length and breadth of Friday’s outage affected millions of Cubans, who had nothing to defend themselves from the heat or the freedom to call out the incompetence and corruption of the State.

The blackout was so bad, that even the Castro dictatorship’s international spokespersons, Reuters, couldn’t ignore it:

Power outages totaling 14 hours or more per day were reported on Thursday across much of crisis-racked Cuba, leaving millions of residents defenseless in the summer heat and humidity.

The state-run power company said breakdowns had forced six plants off-line on the outdated and poorly maintained grid.
