Ideological Soul Mates As Running Mates

So JD Vance and Tim Walz will be the vice presidential candidates this year. The two have almost nothing in common. Vance is a MAGA conservative. Walz is a hardcore woke leftist.

As these characterizations suggest, however, the selection of the two has something in common — a willingness by the presidential candidates to stick to their ideological guns. This, in turn, suggests overconfidence on the part of both candidates.

I'm not so sure. I think Trump picked Vance because he's going to shift to the center a bit on some issues after Labor Day, perhaps most notably on abortion. He needs Vance to hold the base, if so. 

Paul's analysis hits closer to home with Harris, I believe, or maybe she just really doesn't want any ideological tension in her team. That wouldn't be overconfidence, though -- it would be insecurity.
