Democrats began the process to formally select Vice President Kamala Harris as their party’s nominee on Thursday, capping off a whirlwind campaign by Ms. Harris and her allies to seal her place at the top of the ticket.

Delegates to the Democratic National Convention are expected to complete voting, in an online roll call, on Monday, with Ms. Harris as the only candidate who qualified for the ballot. She may also have selected her running mate by then.
